With so many choices in the types of area rugs that one can buy, how can you decide which one will work best for you? These are some tips to remember when deciding on an area rug for the home.
The first thing on your list, before making plans for the rug itself, you must determine how much traffic the location of the rug will get.
The more traffic an area gets, the quicker the rug will get worn down; if you are choosing a high-traffic area it would be best to also choose a higher quality rug. If you are deciding on a low-traffic area you can choose a rug that is more your style without having to worry too much about the quality of the rug.
Settle on whether the rug is going to be the focal point of the room. If you decide on making the rug the focal point of the room, pick a rug that has a design or pattern on it in order to draw the eye to the rug. If you are going for a simple rug that will just sit in the background, then choose on that is plain in either color or design.
There are other things you have to take into consideration if you have pets or children. If pets decide to make the rug their home they can do some real damage to it. If you have children or pets then try to aim for a rug that is stain resistant.
Your budget is a determinant in buying a rug and should always thought about before you start shopping. Area rugs come in a variety of prices, and the last thing you want is to overspend on a simple area rug. Depending on the type of rug you want, or the quality of the rug, you can be set back anywhere from fifty to a few thousand dollars.
Synthetic area rugs might be among your choices if you have a limited budget. You can tell if an area rug is synthetic by looking at the back of the rug. If the fibers are punched through like a carpet instead of hand-knotted then the rug is synthetic.
Though you probably will not get the quality of a wool rug when buying a synthetic one, you will definitely save money on them. If your rugs have to get replaced every other year, you can do so without having to spend that much money on your new rug.
Determining how large the rug will be is important, and you should make sure to leave room between the rug and walls. The last thing you want is an area rug that extends right room’s walls. Your rug should have space between itself and the walls instead.
A great example is a rug under the dining table, measure up to an additional 4-5 inches out from the table on every side. Doing this will make sure that there is an even border around the walls of the room, as well as ensure that there is enough room for the chairs to fit on the rug.
As long as you know what to look for and, how to pick out the perfect rug for your home, an area rug can really be a great addition to your home.
